Thank the Council for Keeping The Pre-K Promise
Last week, the DC Council unanimously approved next year's budget. Thanks to your collective advocacy, Councilmembers strengthened DC's school reform efforts by investing nearly $20 million to implement the Pre-K Enhancement and Expansion Act of 2008 in next year's budget. This investment will:
- Expand pre-k by an additional 1,000 slots across all sectors -- including 200 new pre-k slots in community-based organizations. This expansion effectively cuts the population of unserved children in half and will mark the first time in four years that pre-k is expanded in community-based organizations.
- Fully-fund the Pre-K Program Assistance Grant Fund. Next year, this Fund will distribute grants to assist approximately 120 pre-k programs in meeting the high-quality program requirements.
- Fully-fund the Higher Education Incentive Grant Program. Next year, the Program will provide financial support to approximately 100 current and potential pre-k educators to attain the credentials required to teach in a high-quality pre-k classroom.
In a tough economic climate, the DC Council answered our call to invest in our children's future and we need to let them know they did the right thing.
Send the email below to your councilmembers and thank them for keeping the pre-k promise!

In the midst of an economic storm, you were faced with a hard choice to continue to invest in our children's future or to step away from our commitments when the going gets tough.
